Homework: Choose 1

We have lots of events taking place this week: Circle of Books, a visit from storyteller David Gonzalez, a trip to Storm King, a bus drill, spring photos, Ms. Stern's birthday, and RIF!

Choice 1: Many of Ms. Stern's family and friends have asked what she wants for her birthday this year. If you were Ms. Stern, what would you ask for and why? Also, what is the best gift you ever got? Who gave it to you and why is it the best gift?

OR

Choice 2: On Friday, you will get to choose a new book to keep during our RIF visit. What kinds of books are you most interested in reading? Are there any authors, series, or topics you are hoping to see? What would you recommend the PTA order for next year's first graders?

Can't wait to hear what you have to say!

Hi Ms. Stern. This is Joshua.

If I were Ms. Stern, I would ask for a bracelet because it would be shiny and bright. Girls love jewelry. Ms. Stern will be able to remember who gave it to her all day long as she wears it and be thankful to that person.

My most favorite birthday gift was a motorcycle when I was a baby. My neighbor Phyllis bought it for me. I like to ride it so much.

Miss Stern should ask for a heart statue. It is very delicate and she could decorate her room with it.

My favorite present was a beluga stuffed animal. I love beluga whales. My mom gave it to me.

Interesting ideas!

Joshua, I do like jewelry but I also like your thinking that it would remind me of the person who gave it to me for a long time to come. Is the motorcycle that you got big? I'm picturing something the size of a bike. You are lucky to have such a generous neighbor!

Kevin, I like your idea also. Hearts are pretty and lots of people enjoy looking at them! I bet your Beluga Whale is well loved. I think they are very peaceful looking animals, even though they are so big in real life!

I like how you both explained your thinking behind your gift ideas. I'll keep them in mind. Thanks!

Love,
Ms. Stern

Hi Ms Stern

I think your family should get you a day at the spa. You can have your nails done and a massage. My mom says that she loves that kind of gift because it is relaxing. My favorite gift was my i touch, my grandmother gave it to me for my birthday. I love it because I can now play games with my cousins and sister.

good night

Good evening Ms. Stern

I think you should get flowers for your birthday because they are pretty.

My best birthday gift was my Webkinz. His name is Cody and my Mom got him for me. I like it the best because I can log onto the WebKinz webiste and play with him.

Happy Birthday Ms. Stern.

Isabella,
An i touch is a really neat gift! It looks way more fun than my regular ipod. What kinds of games can you play on it?

A day at the spa sounds lovely. Your mom is a very smart lady!

Darren,
Maybe I should ask for a Webkinz. I've never had one myself but I've seen many of them that my students have brought in to school. What kinds of things do you do on the website? What type of animal is Cody?

Thank you for the birthday wishes and for suggesting the flowers. They sure are pretty!

See you in the morning,
Ms. Stern

If I was Ms. Stern I would ask for money, so I could buy whatever I wanted. The best gift I ever got was the Nerf Vulcan gun from my grandma for Christmas. It was the best gift, because it shoots really fast. Michael

P.S. Happy Birthday Ms.Stern!!!
