Blog Challenge: Listen to the Wind (Three Cups of Tea)

We read the book Listen to the Wind: The Story of Dr. Greg and Three Cups of Tea.
Mrs. McBride, a teacher at Cottage Lane and SOMS, started a book club for kids and adults of all ages in South Orangetown. On the Three Cups of Tea wiki, she asks:
  1. Why is learning important?
  2. What makes a school a school?
  3. How would you feel if you didn't have a classroom, a teacher, or a school?

In the comments section below, give your response to Mrs. McBride's discussion question(s). Also, reflect on your classmates thoughts and ideas as well. Remember to only use your first name or initials.

Learning is important because you can get better at anything you want to.
A school is a place where kids can learn.
If I did not have a classroom, teacher, or school, I would feel really bad because I want to learn as much as I can.

Learning is important because it helps you at certain times.

A school is a place where people learn.

If I didn't have a classroom,teacher,or school,I would feel sad,lonely,and bored.

Learning is important because then you wouldn't know a lot.

Anywhere you learn is a school.

I would miss school if I didn't have one because I like to learn!

Eesha, Victoria, and Dylan,
Thank you so much for sharing your thinking! You all had really interesting ideas. Your responses tell me that learning is important to you.

Here are some things to think about:

*Are kids the only people who learn?

*How would life be different if we didn't go to school or try to learn?

*Do you need to be in a school in order to learn?

All of this discussion about learning makes me want to go read and learn more!

Thanks for sharing.

Love,
Ms. Stern

Learning is important because if you didn't learn, then you wouldn't know anything.

A school is anyplace that you can learn something.

I would feel sad because I really want to learn a lot and I want to be smart.

Learning is important because it makes you smarter.

What makes a school a school are books, teachers, oh and about 500 kids!

I would be kind of in the middle because #1 I wouldn't have all of that homework, but #2...I would be a dummy.

This is a test message from Jacob & his Dad:

If we didn't learn, how would we read?

If we didn't have a school, how would we write?

If we didn't have a teacher, I would feel sad and disappointed.

If we didn't have a school we wouldn't learn anything that we really wanted to learn.

If we didn't have a teacher, I would feel sad because I like my teacher.

Learning is important because you wouldn't be able to get a job.

I think learning is important because it helps us grow.

If you don't have a school you will not be smart.

If I did not have those things I would be sad.
