This morning we started our day writing in our journals just like we do every week. A few children wrote about going to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Pearl River. A lot of people didn’t finish their journals before lunch so they had to finish their work during talking stick. The children who got to share also got to choose something from the candy jar because they used their time wisely and completed their responsibilities.

Ms. Stern raffled off a new Highlights magazine and some stickers. The children had to choose a number between 1 and 12. Madison B. and Lily both guessed correctly.

We had our spelling pre-test. Our spelling words have long e sounds spelled “ie.” Most people thought they were easy but they were actually harder than we originally thought. That just means that we’re going to have to practice a lot and work hard to learn the words. Ms. Stern told us to try out different ways to spell a word and see which one looks right. We tried this with the word “beef.”

Today was our second time taking the 100 facts. Madison B. graduated to subtraction. Casey and Joel made BIG improvements. Overall, most children in the class improved their scores from last week. Next week, we’re going to do even better!

In Music, we are learning about music notes. So far, we have learned about tas and tee-tees. A ta is longer than a tee-tee. Mrs. Fox has someone come pick a card with a number 1-6 on it. The number tells which “castle” someone is going to build. Mrs. Fox has information written on the whiteboard. We work in groups to make the buildings she has written on the board, using the different notes that are written on the sides of the boxes.
